Glasgow 2014: It keeps getting better

The Commonwealth Games clocked 20 this year and, it was held at Glasgow, Scotland. The Games started in 1930 with Nigeria partaking in it for the first time in 1950. The first medal was won by Joshua Majekodunmi which was silver.

Nigeria ranked 8th on the medal list in this year’s games and the chart below shows our medals from 1950 – 2014.

We had the highest number of medals in 1994, with a total of 37 medals, the same year we won the African Nation’s Cup.

During the games, the women had more medals as shown in the pie chart below:

Nigeria has been opportuned to attend the Commonwealth Games 13 times. We did not attend the games in the following years – 1930, 1934, 1938, 1962, 1978, 1986 and, 1998.
